Your Work Is a Mission Field: Kingdom Business, Plainly

July 26, 2026  ·  6 min read  ·  Daniel & Katie Ziedins

There's a quiet assumption in a lot of churches that the "real" ministry happens on a platform — and everything else is just funding it.

Scripture doesn't split life that way. Paul made tents. Lydia sold cloth. Most of the early church met Jesus and then went back to work as a different kind of person in the same job.

If you spend forty hours a week somewhere, that isn't the thing keeping you from ministry. It might be your ministry.

Three ways work becomes worship

1. Excellence preaches before you say anything

Doing genuinely good work, keeping your word, treating people well, and being honest when it costs you — that gets noticed. It earns the right to be heard. Sloppy work with a fish on the business card preaches too, just not what you'd want.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." — Colossians 3:23

2. Proximity is an advantage

You have long-term, trust-built access to people a church service will never reach. Not for a 20-minute conversation — for years. That's not a limitation. That's the mission field most missionaries would love to have.

3. Profit can fund the Kingdom

Business that generates real revenue can send people, fund relief, and carry ministry that donations alone can't. That's the conviction behind Lion's Den Alliance — an alliance of Kingdom businesses building companies on purpose, for a purpose.

What this looks like for us

We've tried to build things that are genuinely good and carry the message:

None of those are ministry instead of the streets. They're what makes the streets sustainable.

Start where you are this week

  1. Do your actual job better. It's the most under-rated evangelism strategy there is.
  2. Pray for three coworkers by name. Map them with Oikos Map if it helps you stay consistent.
  3. Be the person who notices. Ask the question nobody else asks.
  4. Decide what your increase is for. If your business grew 30%, what would that fund?
